BOB POWERS born August 18, 1925, passed away in Lethbridge on Saturday, July 11, 2009. He is the first son of Robert and Ivy Powers (nee Simmons). He was raised in Claresholm until he enlisted with the Navy in WWII. He returned home in 1946 and married Patricia Joan Prendergast. They had six children. Bob worked for Calgary Power in Claresholm, Vauxhall & Lethbridge until his retirement. He was predeceased by his son Tim, and his sisters Dot Sorensen and Betty Simpson. Bob is survived by his loving wife Pat (Joan), children: Beth Trimble (Ross) and daughter Elisa; Rob Powers (Elizabeth), Kathy Shigemi (Ron) and daughters Kiyomi (Tyler) and Mariko; Phil Powers (Grace) and children Megan, Carmen and Simone Powers, Siobhan and Buddy Rich, daughter-in-law Doris Powers(Tim) and sons Timothy and Michael; Mark Powers (Nesta); his great grand children: Aydan Powers, Taylor and Keira Theberge. Bob is also survived by his younger brother Jimmy Powers (Marie), of Seattle; sister-in-law Mo Thomas of Claresholm and brother-in-law Don Lockhart (Michele) of Vancouver. We thank his nephew, Barry Sorensen (member of the Lethbridge Fire and Rescue Unit) who took extra time and concern to be there whenever the need arose. Anders Olsen, Leanne Robertshaw, Lynn Arnold and Penny Patching – special family friends who have over the years provided much needed support. We thank Jelea (working for Greystokes), a lively and good friend, who helped Dad each morning ensuring he chuckled daily. Our Gratitude to Drs. Forestell, Steele and Shields, the Chinook Regional Hospital and Chinook Home Care. We wish to remember Dad’s lifelong friends: Buddy Whitehead (deceased), Jimmy Smith (deceased) and Billy Ritzen. Dad has been our moral compass, our standard of values and the source of our sense of humor. He was a master craftsman in carpentry, an electrician and master mechanic. He built our homes, sewed our clothes, and knitted our sweaters, mitts and gloves. He fixed everything and supplied everything. He proved that you could be a giant among men regardless of stature. A remembrance and celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday July 18, 2009 between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion at 324 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge (please use the north entrance under the blue canopy). In lieu of flowers consider a donation to: “Robert Powers Caring Hearts Fund” c/o Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, 960-19 Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 1W5, or to the Lethbridge Food Bank Society, 1016-2 Ave. S., Lethbridge, AB T1J 0C9.
