Marian Najda Tribute Fund
MARIAN JOHN NAJDA at the age of 90 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at St. Michael’s Health Care Centre. Marian was born in the village of Sielce, Poland on March 17, 1916, the second son of Anna (Warylak) and Wawrzyniec Najda. At the beginning of World War II he was in a Russian labour camp but was released to serve with the British army when Germany invaded Russia. He served as tank sergeant and fought in North Africa and at Monte Casino in Italy. At the end of the war he left Scarborough, England and immigrated to Canada. He worked briefly at Rocky Mountain House and then at the Number 8 coal mine in Lethbridge. Marian married Jenny (Genevieve) Bozecka on October 16, 1948 in Lethbridge, AB. They worked sugar beets in the summer and in 1951 built the house that they have lived in ever since. Marian started barbering at the old Greyhound Bus Depot and started his own barber shop, a few years later in the old Dallas Hotel later the Coalbanks Inn until his retirement in 1983. Marian loved fishing and 5-pin bowling and was always trying for the perfect game. He was a member of the Polish Combatants, Royal Canadian Legion, Knights of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Besides his loving wife Jenny of 58 years, Marian is survived by his son Henry (Debbie) and their son Nathan; daughter Linda (Larry) Tamaki and their children Larry, Jody(Mike) and Travis; daughter Joanne (Jim) Parkinson and their sons Matthew and Nicholas.
