Barb and Mac MacLean Donate $100,000 to Support Cardiac Care

Both born and raised in Lethbridge, Barb and Mac have deep roots in the community and a shared commitment to ensuring its continued growth and vitality. Having witnessed decades of innovation and progress in local healthcare, they were inspired to give back in a way that honours their family’s history while shaping a stronger future for generations to come.
Heart disease has touched Barb’s family personally, as both of her parents passed away from cardiac complications. Their granddaughter has worked as a nurse in the CRH Intensive Care Unit for the past three years, where she has witnessed firsthand the impact of heart-related illness and loss. Her partner, a local First Responder, also experiences the realities of cardiac emergencies daily.
“We’re so thankful for the opportunity to make this donation,” says Barb. “This cause touches every family in some way. Supporting the Bringing Hearts Home Campaign means helping ensure that the best possible care is available right here in Lethbridge, for our children, grandchildren, and the entire region.” Mac adds, “This is the best money ever spent in my life because it is guaranteed to save a life.”

The Bringing Hearts Home Campaign is raising $30 million to enhance cardiac services and create a dedicated Cardiac Centre of Excellence at Chinook Regional Hospital, ensuring faster diagnoses, expanded treatment options, and improved outcomes for patients throughout southern Alberta.
