Southern Alberta Accounting Firm MNP Donates $175,000 to Proposed Cardiac Centre of Excellence

March 11, 2025

Lethbridge, AB – March 11, 2025:

The Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation (CRHF), on behalf of its Board of Directors and the Cardiac Sciences Advisory Cabinet, is pleased to announce a generous donation commitment of $175,000 from the Lethbridge partners of MNP Canada in support of the Bringing Hearts Home Campaign.

“MNP is proud to support the Bringing Hearts Home Campaign as it aligns with our commitment to community well-being,” said David Muryn on behalf of MNP and its partners.. “The opportunity to bring top-tier cardiac care closer to home is important to our firm, our clients, and the broader community. We wholeheartedly endorse the vision for enhanced interventional treatment outlined by Dr. Sayeh Zielke and her colleagues, and we encourage others to contribute to this critical initiative.”

The tax-receipt-eligible donation from MNP contributes to the $30 million fundraising campaign, which spans a 30-month period from September 2024 to February 2027.

“Thank you to MNP and its Lethbridge partners for their generosity and strong endorsement of this project,” said Dr. Aaron Low the Zone Medical Director at Alberta Health Services. “This charitable gift is in fact a gift to all southern Albertans, who will soon have access to enhanced cardiac care services much closer to home. Along with all past and future donations to the cardiac campaign, this gift will ultimately translate into lives saved and improved health outcomes.”

The Bringing Hearts Home Campaign aims to substantially elevate the standard of in-patient cardiac health care at the two regional hospitals in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. The project includes the development of a new catheterization lab, an electrophysiology lab, two echocardiography labs, cardiac MRI and CT scanners, and an expanded cardiac ICU to alleviate pressure on existing intensive care units.

“We are deeply grateful for the cardiac care that members of our firm, our clients, and the larger community have received—both locally and in Calgary,” added Muryn. “Through this gift, we are advocating provincially for expanded in-patient services here in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.”

“We strive to be facilitators of generosity and to help donors structure their commitments in a donor-centric way,” explained Crystal Elliott, CEO of the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation. “MNP’s expertise and leadership in this area will help ensure that those who have the capacity to give can maximize their impact on the future of cardiac care in our region.”

Cardiac health issues are the leading cause of death in Southern Alberta, with mortality rates 26.6% higher than the provincial average. Additionally, the incidence of heart attacks is 15.5% higher in Southern Alberta compared to the rest of the province.

The Bringing Hearts Home Campaign is a transformative initiative that will provide the residents of Southern Alberta with access to cutting-edge cardiac care, reducing the need for long-distance travel and ensuring better health outcomes for patients and their families.
