Celebrating 30 Years of the Val Matteotti Italian Open: A Legacy of Generosity
Lethbridge, AB – March 20th, 2025
After three decades of generosity, camaraderie, and philanthropy, the
Val Matteotti Italian Open proudly celebrates
30 years of impact in support of healthcare in Southern Alberta.
Re-named in honor of
Val and Flora Matteotti, esteemed philanthropists who deeply believed in giving back to their community, this one-of-a-kind tournament has been a cornerstone of fundraising for Chinook Regional Hospital.
Since its inception as the
Italian Open, the event has raised an astonishing
$1.7 million, helping fund state-of-the-art equipment, patient care, and vital healthcare initiatives that improve lives across the region.
The success of this tournament has been made possible by the unwavering commitment of donors, sponsors, golfers, volunteers, vendors, the Lethbridge Country Club and its staff, and supporters—all united by a shared dedication to strengthening healthcare.
"The impact of this tournament over the past 30 years has been truly remarkable," said Crystal Elliott, CEO of the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation.
"We extend our deepest appreciation to the founding committee members, Tony Rose, John Talerico, and Rocco Suriano, whose vision and leadership have made a lasting difference in healthcare for our community."
Since its inception, the tournament has been a source of pride for all involved.
"Our involvement with the Foundation has always been one of great pride, and we cherish the memories built over the years. Thanks again to everyone involved for the amazing years of service and success," said long-time committee member
Rocco Suriano.
Though the tournament has come to a close, its legacy will endure.
The generosity of those who supported it ensures that life-saving healthcare remains accessible in our community, honoring Val Matteotti’s spirit of giving and recognizing Flora Matteotti’s continued commitment to meaningful philanthropy.
